A product can be correctly branded and still look fake in an AI-generated scene. The usual symptom is that it floats above the table or sits on the image like a sticker.
This is often a compositing problem caused by a missing contact shadow, inconsistent light, incorrect scale, or perspective that doesn't match the background. Fix those relationships and the product can suddenly feel grounded.
Why AI products look like they are floating
A real object affects the scene around it. It blocks light, casts a shadow, reflects nearby colours, and touches a surface at a specific point. An AI image can render each element attractively while getting those relationships wrong.
Warning signs include:
- a bright gap between the product and the surface
- a shadow that starts too far from the product
- highlights and shadows travelling in conflicting directions
- a product that is too sharp or bright for the room
- a base that doesn't follow the angle of the table
- reflections that show a different environment
Identify which relationship is broken before regenerating the scene. Otherwise, you may replace one error with another.

Define the surface and contact point
Don't prompt only for a background. Tell the model what the product rests on and where its base meets that surface.
A weak instruction is:
Put the bottle in a luxury bathroom.
A more useful instruction is:
Place the bottle upright on the flat marble shelf. Its complete base is in direct contact with the shelf, with no gap beneath it. Keep the camera at shelf height and show a short, soft contact shadow touching the bottom edge.
This makes the surface part of the composition rather than decorative scenery.
Check the outline at high zoom. A halo left by background removal can create a bright rim, especially on dark surfaces. Clean the mask before trying to solve it with a stronger shadow.
Match the shadow to the main light
A grounded product normally needs two related shadow areas. The contact shadow is the darkest, tightest area immediately under the object. The cast shadow extends away and becomes softer as it travels.
Describe four properties: light direction, shadow direction, edge softness, and approximate length.
Soft window light enters from the upper left. Add a dark, narrow contact shadow under the jar. Cast a low-contrast shadow to the right, about half the jar's width, with increasingly soft edges. Keep the label readable.
Avoid asking for a "realistic shadow" without explaining the light. The model may add a generic oval that has no connection to the scene.
A small product under broad, diffused light usually has a short, soft shadow. Hard direct light creates a sharper one. A tall bottle may cast a longer shadow than a low jar under the same light angle. Use these as visual checks, not rigid formulas.
Adobe's shadow catcher guidance demonstrates the same compositing principle: the receiving surface and light source must align so an added object casts a believable shadow.
Match brightness and colour temperature
A shadow won't save a product photographed under cool studio light and placed into a warm sunset scene unchanged.
Look for three mismatches:
- the product is brighter or darker than objects at the same depth
- white packaging has a different colour cast from the room
- highlights on reflective areas don't match the background light
Ask for a targeted edit:
Keep the product shape, label, logo, and colour unchanged. Adjust only its illumination to match the warm light coming from the right. Reduce the cool studio highlight, add a subtle warm edge reflection, and preserve readable packaging.
"Keep the product colour unchanged" matters. You want the surrounding light to affect the image without turning the packaging into a different variant.

Correct scale, perspective, and focus
A product can look detached because its geometry doesn't belong to the camera view.
Trace the main lines in the surface. A shelf edge or floor tile indicates the scene's perspective. The product base should follow that plane. If the viewer can see the top of the table but not the top of the product, the camera angles disagree.
Include a physical scale cue:
The pouch is 22 cm tall and sits beside a standard ceramic mug at the same depth. It should be slightly taller than the mug.
Check depth of field too. If nearby props are soft, a razor-sharp product can look pasted in. Match edge sharpness, grain, and blur to objects at the same distance without making the label needlessly unreadable.
Make reflections describe the same scene
Glossy bottles, polished metal, glass, and plastic packaging carry information about their environment. A product shot made in a white lightbox may retain long white reflections after being placed in a dark kitchen.
Replace the original lightbox reflections with subtle reflections from the kitchen scene. Keep the amber glass transparent, preserve the label exactly, and avoid mirrored text or new objects inside the bottle.
Google's current image editing guidance recommends describing critical details such as a logo when they must remain unchanged during an edit. Use that specificity for the closure, label, silhouette, and material while changing the surrounding light.
If the model alters the package while fixing reflections, preserve the verified product and edit only the reflection area.
Use a layered composite when prompting stalls
After two or three failed generations, stop asking the model to rebuild everything. A controlled composite is often faster.
Place the original product on the approved background, clean its mask, transform it to the correct scale and perspective, then create contact and cast shadows on separate layers. Use restrained colour and light adjustments so the product inherits the scene without losing packaging accuracy.

Keep editable offer text, prices, and legal copy outside the generated image. They shouldn't need regeneration when the campaign changes.
Review the product in the right order
Before exporting, hide text overlays and inspect the base at 100 percent zoom. Then review the full image at the small size customers will see.
Ask:
- Does the product visibly touch the surface?
- Does the shadow begin at the contact point?
- Do the light and shadow directions agree?
- Does the product share the scene's colour temperature?
- Are scale and camera angle believable?
- Do reflections belong to the environment?
- Are the product shape, logo, and label still accurate?

The fastest repair sequence
When a product floats, work from the bottom upward: clean the mask, define the surface, add the contact shadow, align the cast shadow, match the light, then correct scale and reflections.
Don't begin by adding more props or stronger mood words. Grounding comes from physical relationships. Once the product touches the scene convincingly, a simple background can still look deliberate.
